BIO

For the past ten years, I've been coaching K-12 math teachers to help them make sense of their students' mathematical thinking. My unique experiences as a middle school math teacher in inner-city Los Angeles and an orphanage in El Salvador shape my beliefs about how kids learn best (pedagogy). My training from Teachers College, Columbia University and the UCLA Math Project shape my beliefs about how adults learn best (andragogy). When we align our professional development and teaching with how students intuitively think about mathematics, we can truly transform our students' identity as young mathematicians.
