ABOUT JOANNA
My journey as an educator has always been deeply rooted in the realm of mathematics. From the start, I saw that many people were uneasy with math, especially when it came to teaching it in a way that really made sense. From the classroom to administrative roles, and from speaking at educational summits to leading professional learning communities, my mission is to inspire students and teachers to find joy in learning math and build their identity as a mathematician.

I hold a BA in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics from Biola University and a Masters of Education in Organizational Leadership from Teacher’s College at Columbia University. I've taught 6th - 8th grade in Los Angeles Unified School District and 5th - 9th grade in a private school in El Salvador. For the past 5 years, I was a Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) Math coach and PD facilitator for the UCLA Math Project in the School of Education and Information Studies.
